Warcraft III: Reforged 2.0 Celebrates 30 Years of the Warcraft Franchise
Celebrating 30 Years of Warcraft with Warcraft III: Reforged 2.0
In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise, Blizzard has released a major update to Warcraft III: Reforged, bringing the classic RTS game to version 2.0. This update includes a wealth of fixes, improvements, and nods to Warcraft's rich history.
The headline addition is the new "Classic HD" system, which provides high-definition versions of classic units, buildings, VFX, heroes, environments, and icons. Players can now toggle between the original Reforged visual style and the enhanced Classic HD assets.
The collection screen has also been expanded, with new filtering options to browse skins and portraits. Five new Warcraft III starter portraits have been added, as well as portraits from the original Warcraft I and II games.
Reforged Campaign heroes are now playable in multiplayer, with the classic versions showing if the player has the Classic HD assets enabled. An option to disable skins entirely has been added as well.
The user interface has received several improvements, including a new option to use the Frozen Throne theme, customizable hotkeys, and various HUD enhancements like an in-game timer, deny indicator, and goldmine worker counter.
On the multiplayer front, ranked play now features an XP and leveling system, with leaderboard rankings based on XP. MMR bands have been condensed, and game servers have been added in North America and Australia.
The Reforged environments and lighting have also been updated, with improved terrain art, foliage, bloom, and ambient lighting.
Across the board, this Warcraft III: Reforged 2.0 update celebrates the franchise's legacy while modernizing the experience for both new and returning players. Whether you prefer the classic aesthetic or the Reforged visual style, there's something for every Warcraft fan in this substantial release.
