The gaming industry is witnessing an interesting scheduling dance between two anticipated titles. Daniel Vávra, the creative director at Warhorse Studios, recently revealed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II's release date was strategically adjusted in response to Assassin's Creed's release window.
"We moved Kingdom Come's launch a week earlier, to February 4, due to Assassin's Creed. And I think Ubisoft might have delayed the release of their new series entry because of us. Although Ubisoft is much bigger than Warhorse, and what we consider a success is insignificant numbers for them. In any case, the delay of Shadows is excellent news for us," Vávra stated.
The statement reveals both the strategic thinking behind release date planning and a humble acknowledgment of the different scales at which these companies operate. Despite Warhorse Studios being considerably smaller than Ubisoft, the potential market overlap between the two medieval-themed games was significant enough to warrant schedule adjustments.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the sequel to the 2018 historical RPG, has generated significant anticipation among fans of realistic medieval games. The original title earned praise for its commitment to historical accuracy and immersive gameplay mechanics.
This development underscores the increasingly complex nature of the gaming release calendar, where studios must carefully navigate launch windows to maximize their games' potential success in the market.
