Atomfall: Fresh Insights into the Game World and Gameplay
Rebellion Developments, the creators behind the Sniper Elite series, have unveiled a five-minute trailer for Atomfall, a single-player survival game set in 1950s Great Britain following a major nuclear power plant accident. The trailer showcases the game's world and gameplay snippets, offering players a glimpse into this post-apocalyptic adventure.
Setting and Premise
Atomfall begins in 1962, five years after a catastrophic incident at the Windscale nuclear complex. The local population remains isolated from the outside world, and players are tasked with uncovering the truth behind the power plant disaster and its effects on the surrounding areas.
The game world is filled with abandoned government facilities ripe for exploration. However, these derelict corridors are not entirely deserted, as some form of security still patrols them, requiring players to remain vigilant.
Environmental Hazards and Anomalies
In the most severely affected zones, players will encounter bizarre phenomena. Glowing fungi, unusual plant life, and zombie-like creatures inhabit these areas, adding an element of supernatural horror to the game's atmosphere.
Factions and Threats
Military Presence
The military, initially deployed to establish a quarantine zone and maintain order until help arrived, now poses a significant threat. The trailer raises questions about their current status: "Are they still legitimate authorities or something else entirely?" These soldiers are well-armed and often accompanied by combat robots capable of both gunfire and flamethrower attacks.
Scientists and Cultists
Besides the military, players will encounter mysterious scientists and members of newly formed cults. While the cultists are less well-equipped than the military, their primitive weapons such as axes, bows, and cricket bats still present a considerable danger.
Survival and Gameplay Elements
To survive in this hostile environment, players must acquire weapons. Some can be found throughout the game world, while others will require crafting. The protagonist's arsenal also includes useful tools such as a metal detector and a flashlight.
Release Information
Atomfall is scheduled for release in March 2025 on PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store), PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, including Game Pass. The game will feature Russian text localization but not full audio translation.
This post-apocalyptic survival experience promises to blend elements of exploration, combat, and mystery as players unravel the secrets of the Windscale disaster and fight to survive in a transformed Britain.
